About Chung Kwang Tong (Weiyi)

Quick Overview

Master Chung Kwang Tong, Taoist Name “Wei Yi”, is a Taoist priest of the 34th generation in the lineage of the Dragon Gate Sect of the Complete Perfection Tradition. Master Chung started practicing the Taoist scriptures and the traditional rituals since 2000, at the age of 16. Ordained in 2003 at Singapore Hiang Tong Keng temple, he is a formal disciple to distinguished Hong Kong Taoist master, Master Leung Tak Wah, the CEO and tutor of rites of the Fung Ying Seen Koon (Hong Kong) and Chairman of the Hong Kong Taoist Association.

Promoting Inter Religious Harmony

Master Chung is the administrator for the Singapore Taoist Federation, and the Secretary-General of the Taoist Federation Youth Group (Singapore). He is a also a member of the Inter Religious Harmony Circle (IRHC) and council member of the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO), Singapore. He actively participates in local and international intra-faith and inter-faith engagements, and represented Singapore in several interfaith dialogues such as the ASEM Asia-Europe Youth Dialogue 2008 and Second Asia-Europe Youth Interfaith Dialogue in 2008, and the ASEM Interfaith and Cultural Retreat for Religious Leaders in 2009.

Education

Master Chung received his education in Singapore, and studied in Red Swastika School (1996), Pasir Ris Secondary School (2000), and Nanyang Polytechnic (2004). He served the San Qing Gong Taoist Temple and the Singapore Taoist Federation after his National Service in 2006. The temple sponsored his undergraduate and graduate studies at Oklahoma City University, USA, and the National University of Singapore, Singapore. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts (with concentration in Mass Communications) from Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma, USA. Master Chung is currently undertaking the Master of Arts research programme at the Malay Department of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore.

Ordaining as a Taoist Priest

Being an ordained Taoist priest who is bilingual in English and Mandarin, Master Chung shares the ancient Chinese religion with the English speaking world. He is also the lecturer (Taoism) for the Catholic St. Francis Xavier Major Seminary in Singapore and conducts regular talks at the National Community Leadership Institute (NACLI), and for the Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circles (IRCC). He is also a Grassroots Leader at Punggol South Constituency.

莊光棟,1984年生,新加坡人,祖籍海南文昌,是道教全真龍門派三十四傳“惟”字輩弟子,道號“惟義”,職授「高功法師」。2000年到新加坡贒當宮開始跟隨香港蓬瀛仙館經懺導師 梁景華道長學習經懺科儀,2003年在贒當宮皈依入道,學習經懺科儀,師承梁景華師父,學習全真經懺科儀以度人;學習老子道德哲理以修身;同時,研習齋醮與祭祀、戒律與管理等文化。

莊道長為美國俄克拉何馬城市大學大眾傳媒學士,現於新加坡國立大學人文社科學系(馬來文學)修讀碩士學位。

莊道長現任新加坡道教總會青年團-秘書長,新加坡宗教聯誼會(IRO)-秘書長,城隍慈善基金會(麥波申城隍托儿中心、后港城隍家庭服務中心、后港城隍學童托管中心)-副秘書,新加坡武裝部隊拘留營監事會(BOV for SAFDB)-委員,全国种族与宗教和谐常务委员会工作委員會(NSC Working Committee)-委員,跨宗教和諧圈(IRHC)-委員,新加坡肅毒協會道教關怀与輔導服務-委員,等。

Chung Kwang Tong, a Singaporean born in 1984, is a 34th generation Taoist high priest of the Quan Zhen Long-men (Complete Perfection Dragon Gate) Tradition. He learnt the Taoist scriptures and classics under distinguished Taoist Master Leung Tak Wah, who is the Tutor of Rites at the Hong Kong Fung Ying Seen Koon since 2000. He was ordained as a priest in 2003 at the Singapore Hiang Tong Keng Temple, and received the higher ordination in Hong Kong as a High Priest in 2009. Master Chung graduated from the Oklahoma City University (USA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications in 2009, and he is currently studying for his Master degree at the Department of Malay Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore. He is also the Secretary-General for the Taoist Federation Youth Group, Honorary Secretary for the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO), Assistant Secretary for the Society of Sheng Hong Welfare Services (MacPherson Sheng Hong Childcare Centre, Hougang Sheng Hong Family Service Centre, Hougang Sheng Hong Student Care Centre), Member of the Board of Visitors (BOV) to the Singapore Armed Forces Detention Barracks, Member of the National Steering Committee Working Committee, Member of the Inter-Religious Harmony Circle (IRHC), and Member of the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) Taoist Care and Counselling Services, etc.
